I think this is what happens when you edit your sources file and change to a new distribution.

Were you originally on etch but are trying to upgrade to lenny?

If you are and you changed the occurences of etch to lenny in the sources file then you need to run apt-get dist-upgrade first

Ah no

No I didn't want to do that. I was told to change some things in the sources.list and this has been happening since. I don't want to upgrade to lenny. This is the sources.list :
# deb Debian Multimedia Packages::Home etch main

deb Index of /debian etch main
deb-src Index of /debian etch main

deb Debian -- Security Information etch/updates main non-free
deb-src Debian -- Security Information etch/updates main non-free

deb Index of /debian unstable main contrib

deb Debian Multimedia Packages::Home etch main

These are all warnings they are not errors, just means some of your locale settings aren't defined and its choosing the defaults subsequently.

Oh

Sorry I don't know what that means... is that like the time/date settings? Because that has always been a hassle with debian getting it wrong. I don't know how many times I have noticed the wrong date right from when I was installing it. I have changed it and it keeps going to the wrong date/time. I have checked the bios and sometimes that is wrong too. I have changed the bios battery 3 or 4 times this year.... so annoying. I don't know if it ever makes a difference as the problem comes back. Should I just ignore it? Oh I even flushed or flashed the bios...he he I don't know because a friend told me to do it....long story(for a different problem) . I did this just before this install of Debian4. This is the 2nd install I have had on this machine/drive.

You can ignore it if it isn't causing you any problems, locale settings have to do with location, keyboard settings, language, etc. As long as it isn't causing you any problems I would just ignore it.

OK odd

OK thanks no it doesn't seem to be causing problems. I don't know as there are so many little niggly things going wrong and I never quite know if it is me being a beginner or not. Also that this didn't happen in the last install. I do know that things are set exactly the same as before ....MMMMmm actually maybe not as a friend who is the expert level did the install last time and I did the beginner dummuies install...ha ha. Thanks!
