Hello to everyone again. A little while ago I posted a thread called "synaptic problems" (incase you want to view it, here is the link) http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/deb...-problems.html
Anyway, in this thread I mentioned that I basically failed to add a source correctly and got a number of error messages and such; well now I have a new problem it would seem.
For whatever reason, synapitc itself seems to be running smoothly but when I go to search for new packages, none but the ones on my system come up as results from the search.
I have an inkleing that it may be because I wiped out the debian ftp link being that my sources.list is devoid of anything in it. However being that this newb is clueless, I would like to hear from you guys.

I don't run Debian, but have you tried reinstalling Synaptic to see if that might fix the problem?

Yes Ozar I did, and just tried again and I get a red error message at the top of the G-Debi Package installer saying; Error: conflicts withthe installed package "synaptic" . Obviously it does not want me to re-install it. Should I try Removing Synaptic first then try to open the package? (I'm a bit leary of doing this, but if thats what it takes ill do it)

I know nothing about gdebi having never used it, but thought it was for installing local packages.

Are you not able to use Synaptic to upgrade/install itself?

That would apear to be the case Ozar, I just went into the synaptic package manager and then searched for itself, which it found, and then right-clicked and the tab for upgrading it was "greyed" out. I have also tried the systems native upgrade tool and nothing comes up there either.

Oops... I missed the part in your first post saying there's nothing in your sources.list. Are you sure it's empty?

Maybe someone will post their default list here and you can copy it to your own computer. I think that should work. Once you get that going, post back with any errors.

Sorry for leaving you for a while Ozar, I had some people come over; anyway I read both of your replies, then opened the sources.list file and added those repositores. This is the my sources.list file looks exactly:

deb ftp.osuosl.org :: Oregon State University Open Source Lab stable main contrib non-free
deb Index of /debian-non-US stable/non-US main contrib non-free
deb Debian -- Security Information stable/updates main contrib non-free

Is there anything that you can see wrong with it? (with my experiance with this I would not doubt it) Because after I saved it and re-opened synaptic, this was the error message I got:

Not sure, but it sounds like the mirrors are down, or bad mirrors.

Can you try these mirrors to see what happens?

You might want to make a backup of your old sources.list just in case they are needed again.
