update-manager stalls on todays kernel update [SOLVED, my mistake]

EDIT: I just overlooked a dialog box. It's "fixed" now.
Sorry for posting this non-problem.

hi,

i've started updating my kernel to linux-image-2.6.18-6-686 using
update-manger (which invokes debconf afaik).
downloads went fine, but now update-manager hangs/stalls in the
"Installing Software" phase. The details box reads
Quote:
Unknown frontend: gtk
Preconfiguring packages ...
(Reading database ... 196368 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace linux-image-2.6.18-6-686 2.6.18.dfsg.1-17etch1 (using .../linux-image-2.6.18-6-686_2.6.18.dfsg.1-18etch1_i386.deb) ...
The directory /lib/modules/2.6.18-6-686 still exists. Continuing as directed.
without progress for the last 20 minutes or so.

according to "top" update-manager isn't using any CPU, so i'm not sure if
waiting any longer makes much sense. on the other hand i'd hate to abort
a kernel installation -- don't want to corrupt the installation.

is this a known problem? any suggestions how to deal with this?

thanks, kai
