Trouble with Billion Bipac 7000 ADSL USB modem in Debian etch

I have trouble connecting to the internet using the billion bipac 7000 adsl usb modem.i've tried the redhat module provided in the Cd that came with the modem,I also tried the "standard linux driver" provided in the billion.com website.I tried UbuDSL module and also a module for Conexant accessrunner based chipset from sourceforge.net-nothing could get my debian to get to the net.

The runing of pppoeconf says that it detected an ethernet link, and couldnot configure because the modem may be busy or used by some other command.I don't know whether I have messed up the configuration. But at start up it says someting about "ADSL line:" and a "cxacru firmware misconfigured??"

i have messed up the installation of debian over windows,I had wiped my harddisk on first install;I do not want to mess up again. Please help.

I am a complete newbie and have only little idea about configuration, what i did was just follow the instructions. Please guide me.

Thanks for your help, time and resources...
