You should only leave the dvd repositories if you don't have an Internet connection. This is because the apps on it are out of date. There is nothing to be gained from leaving them.

PS - I think I see what you mean. Don't worry: you install Debian, and you uncomment the dvd repositories after. Apt-get will look after the updates of all packages you have installed from the DVD. In a word, it's marvellous!

I've reinstalled Debian Etch. Now its going on smoothly
