| Ubuntu if you are a Gnome person, Xandros if you are a KDE person. |

| I use IceWM but between the "big two," I prefer Gnome. That's why it was an added shame that I was disappointed with Ubuntu. I couldn't configure my Orinico Gold PCMCIA without the Ubuntu wireless network utility freezing up on me. This happened several times, and I finally gave up. I think Ubuntu is on the right track though. A clean interface with a few well chosen apps without the bloat is right in line with my way of thinking. I'll wait for the next release.
Mepis rocks. Also, Kanotix increasingly impresses me with every release. |

Are there any? | I know why, on fast computers you wont notice it :-p
Thats why linux is so perfect for new computers too. But I been choosing my distros according to what works on my Craperon(Celeron) 635mhz 256mb 20gb intel i810 gfx Desktop. Progeny has been the fastest no question about it. I just want to know why and how. And of course BeatrIX comes out to be faster than Ubuntu for me. After 2005 I'm going to dual-boot my laptop though and gotta get a new pc some nice shuttle |

| I must report that ProMepis Beta 3 is very impressive! The install got a little squirrelly on me when I was formatting partitions, but other than that, it was a piece of cake. Lots of great apps and it offers Gnome as well as standard KDE. |

| Debian is the best The main thing that shines out of Debian is the fantastic apt package management. Anyoneone who says rpm or tarballs are better should be taken out and shot, though tarballs are very compatible, but a pain to remove if you delete the install source . Personally, I prefer plain Debian, it's not easy to learn, but it's so powerful, and once built, will stay rock-solid.
By the way, KDE rules out of the 'big two', but Fluxbox is best. |
