Making KDE the default session.
I currently have both KDE and Gnome installed on my computer. But for some reason it made Gnome the default. I need to know how to make KDE the default again. Thanks. (I am running Debian with the 2.6.8 kernel)

Making KDE the default session
I don't even have a /etc/sysconfig folder. Could the desktop settings be somewhere else ? or should that folder exist and it's just missing for some reason ?

OOPS !!! I forgot that Debian has no sysconfig directory.
Try looking in your /etc/default/ directory, or else try this :
$ switchdesk kde
I googled a lot, could not find where is the desktop file in debian, probably it uses something else. anyway, the switchdesk cmd should be helpful.
Hope this helps ..

This is the another easy way .. You may have tried this already
:
1. Log out
2. In the GDM log in manager select the Sessions menu
3. Select the KDE Session
4. Log in as normal
5. When asked if you wanted the KDE session to be the default, select Make Default
That should do it .. However in Fedora Core 2 , AFAIR, gdm did not ask to make the session default, it just plain logged in. If thats the same with you in debian, then you will have to use the previous soln I guess.

on FreeBSD, this is the code to start kdm at startup, this will stop it from defaulting to gnome.
on ttys config file.
It should be simliar, probably not exactly the same but the kdm dir should be.[/code]Code:ttyv8 "/usr/local/bin/kdm -nodaemon" xterm on secure
