    Xandros: apt-get error

Hi, I posted in this section because Xandros is the closest to Debian.

When I try to run XandrosNetworks, I get an error:

E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (2 No such file or directory)
E: Unable to lock the list directory

Then I went into the Console and did a:

    sudo apt-get update
    and a
    apt-get update

and it came up with the same error. Anyone have suggestions? I am VERY new to this OS and I DID use the search function before posting this, but I wasn't 100% what to search for so don't yell at me if this is posted somewhere else, just kindly direct me to the topic.

    Thanks,

    -Vince

And also, this is another error I get from XN:

Hi, I posted in this section because Xandros is the closest to Debian.
your in the correct place... xandros is based on the debian system... so it is kinda debian (but made alot easier in many cases)...

    don't yell at me

    GAH!!! nah, just kidding...

When I try to run XandrosNetworks, I get an error:
lets get started... i have used Xandros a while ago, so me memory is very sketchy... XandrosNetworks is the updating thing isnt it... if me memory serves me corectly...

usually when you have a locked file, it means you need to be root OR have the root password... usually these things ask for the root password... now i did this in Xandros when i was using it last... when it asked me for the root password, i put in the wrong one and then ticked the box asking me if it should remember it... i could never use that program in that user again...

    well then...

the only reason i can think of that it'll give you that error is that you aint root or using that program as root...

as for the apt-get things... well... i can really answer that...

    Code:
    su
this makes you be root in that terminal... you need the root password... once done, you are root in that terminal... amazing.... all that power... you never need to login as root ever again... you can just run root under a termanal... horay...

    then

    Code:
    apt-get install "program"
    or
    apt-get update
    or
    apt-get upgrade
if they have no proper sources then

    Code:
    apt-setup
should help you set up apt-get...

    hopefully i have been helpful...
    GAH!!!

Well harry, you did a pretty good thing. I've done this the same, and you're right about this user thing going on in Xandros. I'm now using Xandros Desktop Business OS. And it's very nice to use it!
