nvidia driver problem in mepis

I have recently switched from suse 9.3 to simply mepis. I am having trouble getting my nvidia driver working so i can run 3d apps. This same computer ran 3d fine in suse, but not here. I checked the nvidia driver box in the mepis os center, rebooted, and x crashed back down to text mode. I tried installing it from synaptic, same thing. To fix it after it crashes, i have to throw in the mepis cd, reboot, and go to my XF86 config file and change "nvidia" back to "nv" , reboot again, and x comes up. (there may be an eaiser way, but that works) I thought someone here may have some insight on what is wrong with my setup. Here is my hardware info;

envision eft920 monitor
nvidia geforce fx5200 video card
simply mepis 3.3.2
kernel 2.6.12

my sources list;

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Issue is interaction between Section "Monitor" and Section "Screen". Your monitor has multiple '1280x1024". You have two choices here:
(1) Guess which "1280x1024" line you will use (check frequency- yours is up to 160 so do not use any over 160, i.e. 181.75)
or
(2) (My choice) In ModeLne, change "1280x1024" to "1280x1024a" "1280x1024b" etc. Then in screen, have modes "1280x1024a" etc.

Example:

Modeline "1280x1024a" 80 1280 1296 1512 1568 1024 1025 1037 1165 Interlace
Modeline "1280x1024b" 110 1280 1328 1512 1712 1024 1025 1028 1054
Modeline "1280x1024c" 126.5 1280 1312 1472 1696 1024 1032 1040 1068 -HSync -VSync
Modeline "1280x1024d" 135 1280 1312 1456 1712 1024 1027 1030 1064
Modeline "1280x1024e" 135 1280 1312 1416 1664 1024 1027 1030 1064
Modeline "1280x1024f" 157.5 1280 1344 1504 1728 1024 1025 1028 1072 +HSync +VSync

Modes "1280x1024a" "1280x1024b" "1280x1024c" "1280x1024d" "1280x1024e"
"1280x1024f"

Clear?
