remote desktop, 1 server [debian], 1 desktop [suse]

Hi all. I'm planning on setting up my old PC into a http/ftp server with amule pumping away. I also would like to use my other computer(s) (inside my LAN and also from anywhere in the world) to remotely connect with "virtual desktop." This is the setup i "would like to have."

The server PC running Debian Etch, loaded with apache2 hosting two domains. It will also feature an ftp server the supports two domains as well (ps - is it even possible to have an ftp server host two domain names?).

The 'client' computer(s) will connect by remote desktop. It is important that I have the desktop visible, because I am not (yet) able to use 'pure command line.' The 'client' PC's may be using either windows (my father is a stubborn mule :)) or a linux distro (most likely opensuse 10.2). One important question, however, is, do I use NoMachine NX (free version) or FreeNX? They both have windows and linux clients, and windows and linux 'servers' for the remote desktop feature, correct?
