After Debian installation...

Hey there so finally dropped FC6 and switched to Debian Sarge. I would like to know some stuff cause I have just installed the Deb on my laptop (writing from gentoo live cd). I have a quota where I use internet so I have a limit of 1024 MB. I have like 500 mb free to download stuff. First of all:

1. When I installed the debian from minimal CD the krenel version was 2.4.... isnt that pretty old? How do I update the whole system?

2. I would like to use gnome - but theres that limit. Is gnome bigger than 500 mbytes to download it?

Thx

1. Look here.
2. I think GNOME is over 500MB.

I would recommend installing 'icewm' just to get you by for now. Icewm is pretty bare-bones...but the packages (not including x-server based deps) is like 4.5 MB. But don't let that fool you...its incredibly efficient.
