what do the red circles next to dependencies refer to?
In the debian.org site package dependencies are marked with red circles if they are dependencies and not just recomended or whatever. The red things are typically in between two dependency packages. What does this in-between-ness signify, that both packages are necessary or that you may choose one or the other?
Thanks any help.

Looking at the kpat package (as an example), there are two instances of what you mention; both have a comment that one of the choices is meant for a particular architecture. Running 'apt-cache showpkg kpat' on my machine shows that in those two instances, I only have the dependency that's appropriate for my architecture. So it looks like different architectures sometimes require different dependencies.

That's huge Zelmo.
You must be right; perhaps wasn't being at my most intelligent, though it shows how you (or at least I) tense up and stop thinking with bloody computers.
