I have a problem I can't easily seem to solve.

I recently added tmpfs support in my (custom) kernel, from debian sources (version 2.6.18 ), as I noted udev was complaining it couldn't start, and I thought, it's probably a good idea to solve that.

So I did, and on this new kernel udev indeed starts. However, now alsa seems to have a problem, as it won't play anymore (or that is, I don't hear any sound anymore) I don't think that was the case immediately (that is, on the new kernel, sound played before, but it doesn't now) and, curiously, switching back to the old kernel doesn't seem to help.

I'm guessing some alsa configuration problem, combined with changes udev did to the /dev/ directory, causes this; if that's not the case, then somehow this not at all related to the new kernel, but "just" an alsa problem coming up

Anyway, I'm not at all sure how to find the cause.

I think I could remove those snd-via82xx snd-mpu401-uart modules, but they haven't been causing problems before, so that seems doubtfull

As I try alsaplayer I get:
