wicd problem
i installed wicd in etch and while it was running, i stupidly shut down the computer. when i started the computer back up, wicd doesnt respond. i cant uninstall it, which makes me think it is still running. can someone tell me how to kill the orocess if this is the case.

can you see it in the output of "ps ax"
I don't know what is wicd but from its name i think it is a daemon procees which start automatically when your system boot up.
for killing processes check the kill and killall comands in man.
