    Question WinFast TV tuner & kernel module problems

    Hi!

    I'm running Debian testing / win xp dual boot on my desktop and I'd get rid of xp as soon as i get my tv tuner to work with debian. This is where the problem comes;

    I have a WinFast TV2000 XP Global (not Expert) tuner card which is unsupported by the linux kernel. On the other hand, I've found experimental modules that add support for my card here:
    ~mrec/v4l-dvb-experimental: Summary

    It uses the cx88xx chipset, and these drivers support the card in theory. I compiled them with my own 2.6.22.5 kernel, as well as the Debian lenny 2.6.21 kernel, and the results are the same. As soon as i install them and load the modules my system hangs when i try to load X. I'm using the proprietary nvidia drivers, without them i can't even try to start X. It just doesn't seem to support my GeForce 8500 GT without the nvidia drivers.
    At that point the system is totally dead, the only thing i can do is reset.

    As soon as i uninstall the experimental video4linux drivers from the kernel modules and reboot X works fine, but i'm back to the point where i started from. No support for my tv tuner...

    Does anyone have experience with the experimental modules mentioned above on debian?

    After a day of googling and playing around with different kernels and modules i'm totally stuck... no idea what i can do from here... These are the only drivers i found for the card...

    Any help would be deeply appreciated.

    Well don't know if that helps, but i had in the past lots of problems with my tvcard PixelView PlayTv Pro Ultra, wich uses the cx88xx too.
    After modprobing a lot! the answer was........

    made a file tvcard in /etc/modprobe.d with the above

    options cx8800 video_nr=0 radio_nr=0
    options cx88xx card=27 tuner=38

    rebooted and my tvcard was there!!
    I think that if you pass card=... tuner=... with that file your tvcard should be loaded.
    You can find documentation in /usr/src/linux-source....../Documentation/video4linux
