firewall????
hello all,
i am brand spanking new to linux and i just installed debian etch. now i want to install a firewall but not sure which one to go with. some people say the best way to set up the firewall is manually and others say it's best through the gui for a newb till the newb gets the hang of things. i heard firestarter is good but when i went to their site they only had a version for sarge and other versions of debian(i don't know if this makes a difference or not). other places have been saying to read up on iptables in order to learn how to properly set up a firewall. i looked up some documentation on iptables and it kinda overwhelmed me. being new to linux and all. it's not that i don't want to do the work, after all i'm switching to linux because i want to have full control over my os and know everything that goes on and be able to work in a powerful cli. that being said i would at least like to get a firewall set up so i can get going and learn as i go. i've spent the last few hours going through numerous sites and forums and ultimatley banging my head against my desk for not being able to get my a** off the start line.
if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated

It appears that Debian has a number of firestarter packages, ready to go:

Hi guys,
thanx for your replies. well I downloaded firestarer and then installed it and I can't find it. I don't know if I'm jsut to used to windows but I've looked everywhere, did a search for it and still can't find it. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what but if anyone feels like replying to this embarrassing problem that i'm having please do.

It's been a few years since I've used it, but here are some docs that might help:
Documentation - Firestarter
You might have to reboot to see it in the menu, but I'm not sure.oz

Thanx Ozar, I rebooted and found firestarter in system tools. I went through the wizard and set everything up. But when I open the Epiphany web browser, at the bottom lefthand side of the window, there is a padlock icon that is unlocked and it says Security level: insecure. Is this to do with the firewall? How do I change it to secure?
Thanx again.
