need help setting gcc development env !!!

Hi,

I need to know how to setup gcc for compiling programs.

As you can see from the below post, it says "stdio.h : no such file ..."
this means my gcc is not setup properly, specially the part where its trying to see the #include

Can you tell me where and how the system headers are specified ?
I am very much familiar with visual studio and quite new to linux :o

You are probably missing libc6-dev. You can install it individually or install the build-essential metapackage e.g.

that worked. So few more questions

(1) I know there is a compiler option -isystem, but how do I set manually the system header ?
(2) How did installing this file fixed the problem...I meant...what files did it add and what files did it modify to let gcc know that "hey, check out the new stuff added !!!"
