Xserver turns off GPU? (AMD64, pcie gf8600)
Hi,
Got a nice puzzle at my hands, hope someone can help me.
i've got a new computer for the office
Asus Vintage 3,
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+,
Nvidia Geforce 8600 pci-e
(lspci :: 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Unknown device 0402 (rev a1))
i gave it a brand new install with the AMD64 netinstall cd, and anything looked fine until i've tried to install and run xserver-xorg.
the monitor says "Going to sleep mode" and no way to get it back (switching to TTY didn't work either)
after it responded to ctrl-alt-del i've install ssh server, and came to the conclusion that it is not linux that crashes but that the videocard is turned of in some way....
Any one has an idea?
actions to reproduce:
- install debian
- apt-get install xserver-xorg xfonts-base
- X
-> screens blank until reboot.
thanx,
(ps sound a bit like: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/red...f-monitor.html
