Debian version for Intel Pentium D

    Hello,

I have a server running Dual-Core Intel Pentium D (3GHz), and I'm trying to find out what architecture it falls in to select the correct version of Debian for installation.

However, I got confused with AMD64, IA-64, and x86 since it seems to me that they all are related.

Could any one help on this, and very much appreciate for an explanation.

    SG.

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Check here for more information about your cpu. In my opinion it is better using x86 installation rather that 64bit system. Here is explained why. Good luck!

    Thank you for your help.

After sometimes reading, I realized that the Pentium D belongs to the x86_64 model, and we can get rid of the IA64. However, the Intel x6_64 is also the Intel ME64T, which is supported by AMD64 (as stated in Debian installation manual). So it remains for me to choose between AMD64 and x86, which one is right?

    Sorry for annoying.

Yes, according to the Wikipedia article, the Pentium D is an X86_64 chip, which means you can choose between X86_64 and regular X86 versions.

I would suggest the x86 installation. Check the link I provided in my previous post.
