Playing DVDs
So I am having a problem playing dvds in debian. I am running debian unstable and I play mostly backed up DVD's
Things I have tried are installing all the stuff listed in this thread https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats and playing DVD's never worked. I then installed ogle and ogle-gui and playing dvd's with ogle worked like a champ.
I then found this link
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/deb...bian-etch.html
and playing dvd's seem to have broke when I did the "Mplayer and mp3 stuff" section
I have completly uninstalled and reinstalled ogle and it still won't work. the dvd plays and I get sound, but the video just stays black.
any help is appreciated.

Do you have the libdvdcss installed !
Linux is not only an operating system, it's a philosophy.

mplayer is installed but it won't play anything off a DVD
I think I may have just figured out my problem (not the fix), I just tried to play a dvd and it played fine in ogle, the only difference is its playing on my laptop monitor and the laptop is not docked. before the laptop was docked and I was using another monitor with a resolution not supported by my laptop. So its either a resolution problem or its an overlay problem. I play some more when I get in the office today and try to narrow it down.
still though, mplayer looks nice if it would work. gxine and ogle play fine with no problems (now).
mplayer gives the error "error opening/initializing the selected video_out(-vo) device"
*edit, just found this to fix my mplayer problem http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/lin...vo-device.html
