Having a hard time getting an xvid file to play

    Hi everyone,

Well, after scouring the interwebs looking at and trying different solutions proposed for getting an xvid file to play, I have had no luck. Does anyone have a way to get xvid to work for me? I hate to be like this, but I am a relative noob and need a little help with getting packages in order and such.

    Thanks

    Andy

    Cool

    Hi Andy,
i had the same problem as i am a newbie to this, i went to add and remove then multimedia and installed all the Gstreamer files xvid, mpeg, avi, and so on.

there are also xvid and divx files in the adept manager section but i found add and remove better. Hope this works for you!
    i am using Kubuntu 7.04

    Hi guys

mplayer almost play everything, and also vlc should good for you, so

    aptitude install mplayer vlc

and you need install the codec pack the package name is w32codecs or win32codecs i'm not sure.
