Cool Adjust refresh rate from 75 to 60 after nvidia install

I installed the nvidia driver in Debian Etch (the Debian way) and it works.
My 17" lcd screen, set on 1280x1024, requires 60 Hz refresh rate. However the default (and single) system setting is 75 Hz now. (With the nv driver I could choose between 60 and 75 Hz)
I tried to adjust the sync rates ( "dpkg-reconfigure" and "xorg.conf"), but nothing works. It stays on 75 Hz. A black bar shows on the right side of the screen. I assume that this has to do with the too high refresh rate.
    How to adjust?
    Help is appreciated.
