this doesn't make sense, i know of no package called universal component.
What is it you want to install? as i fear you dont know this, where have you heard of it? or what do you expect it to do for you?

Not sure, but maybe he's referring to The Common Desktop Component Model?

I am not sure where it originally came from it was to do with my printer installation (scanner help). i came across this term inn two of the help sites it was written as enable universal component, i have never heard of this although i have only been using linux for a few months.
My problem has now been resolved so thanks for your input if i come across it again i will post it for you to look at.

    Universal repository perhaps?

You can enable it by uncommenting (removing the ##) from /etc/apt/sources.list where you see the word 'universe' mentioned.

If you post your /etc/apt/sources.list we can show where.
