disk imaging
Hello to everyone on the forum, this is my first post!
I'm by no means a wizard with Linux, more an apprentice but there is something I'm looking into that will make my life easier and hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction.
I am looking for tools etc to create a disc that can be put in a machine much like a livecd/boot cd that will point to a image on a server and begin the imaging process on that machine. basically something like an automated dd command.
I would like to get everything done in Debian but haven't found much info via google.
I hope I have been clear enough and look forward to any suggestions.
Many Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the LinuxForums.
Check Ghosting for Unix and PartImage. Both have Network support. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Those look like pretty good tools, both seem to have their advantages but I don't think they are what I need, we don't have an ftp server and its not my network plus the images already exist.
I will try to be more clear with regards to the situation... There are Windows images (.bz2) on a network drive created using dd instead of booting from a livecd and entering another dd command to use this image to build a fresh pc for end users I am looking for a way to make this step automated.
From what I have found so far I think a livecd can be customised but I don't know what would need to be added to to make the dd command run once a customised livecd boots up.
If there are other ways to make use of .bz2 images on a network drive to build machines I will definitely look into those.
Thanks again
