I don't use Debian but when I have come across this type of issue before it has been either:-

    1. problem with the install media - are you sure the CD is OK ... I always burn at minimum speed.
    2. system does not have enough memory ... usually the install runs painfully slow & falls over at some point.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you for your response. It might be media, I'll try with another disk. I don't think it's the memory I got about over 1 GB of RAM. I would assume that would be more than plenty.

I tend to agree 1GB RAM should be more than enough ... even Vista will run with that! Is there no option during install to check the media first ... or maybe run checksum and compare with download website?

Yes there is in the main menu, there exists an option to verify the disk. But i don't know how to run it before it tries to load anything. Is there a command at boot prompt? Does anyone know? Thank you for your help.

I don't use Debian so I am not sure ... but section 5.3.1.2 of this may help, section 5.2 covers boot parameters (but I did not spot anything for media check in boot parameters).

For some other distros ... Ubuntu has a menu option at startup to check the CD (you just highlight the option & hit return), SUSE gets part way through the install process and gives the option to check the CD (it can also be done through YAST after installation).
