In the past, I've always used the 1.0-96xx series, which is why I downloaded that particular driver. I'm not sure that my card would accept the 169.09. Perhaps I'll give it a try when I have a few minutes. Do you think it's worth it?
You can always check what devices are supported by a particular driver by hitting the "Supported Devices" link on the left hand side of the page.

However, if your existing driver works just fine after the work you've put into it, I'd just leave it alone. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Yes, indeed, it appears that I've installed the appropriate driver. But I now have an odd problem with X. I don't know if it's related to the graphics driver or the new kernel, but when I exit Fluxbox (to get to the kdm menu) X crashes. This doesn't happen, though, if I exit using ctr + alt + backspace: it only happens when I exit via the Fluxbox menu. Just for fun, I tried in Blackbox and (perhaps unsuprisingly, seeing as it's basically Fluxbox) the same thing happens, as it does in Kde and Xfce. Now, when I do startx, X starts but only as an Xfce session. Any attempt to go back to Fluxbox results in another X crash. Strange. And ideas?

Just in case anyone else has the problem I laid out above, I want to update this thread. Apparently the X crash issue is related to the 2.6.24 kernel as I have just installed the 2.6.24.2 kernel and the problem has gone away.

    Happy Tuxing!
