Sound not working (usual suspects innocent)
Dear all,
I'm sorry to post such an oft-repeated topic, but I've done all I can, including hours of research, co-opting geeks, messing around with modules etc. No, the sound is not muted.
This is my first install of debian; I'm running etch with kernel 2.6.18; I have gentoo at home (around which I know my way much better, strangely enough)
Relevant information:

The only thing I can see that looks strange (to me) -- and I have no idea what controls this -- is the fact that the "silence_size" (at the bottom of the output of aplay) is the same as the "boundary".
