Debian Etch (2.6.18) and Intel DQ965GF
Hihoo!
I've a little problem:
I'm using an INTEL DQ965GF motherboard. already while installing Debian Etch I've had troubles to access the internal CDROM.
The netinst-CD was able to boot from this device - but the installation process could not find any CDROM-devices and I had to quit the installation.
After attaching an external USB-CDROM, I was able to install Debian Etch without problems.
But even after the complete installation and updating, the internal CDROM refused to work together with Debian.
Any ideas what to do?
I'm using Debian my file&print server - and it will be upgraded to a Scalix mailserver within the next weeks.
cheers,

Hi and Welcome !
Execute this
Does it detect CD Drive and display correct info? If it does then post the contents of /etc/fstab file here.Code:su - hdparm -I /dev/cdrom
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Hi!
if the external CDROM is active, I also get a device shown.
if only the internal CDROM is active, I get nothing.
for me it seems, that debian does not recognize the internal CDROM at all.
Sorry - if I'm not very specific - but I'm completely new to Linux
btw - everything else is working fine. only the CD is making problems.
I'm already thinking about upgrading to Lenny - maybe it works there.

You wrote that NetInstall CD detected that CD Drive. It means problem is in conf files only.
If you still interested in fixing this problem instead of upgrading to Lenny ( I am using Lenny though and it works perfectly ) then post the contents of /etc/fstab file here.
Something might be wrong in /etc/fstab.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
