    SAMBA Problem

I can start the samba service without problems.
I can edit smb.conf or use the graphical editor to share resources with windows clients easy.

    BUT.
When I use the graphical browser to browse to a share resource on the same server, or on a windows machine, then the browser has big problems.

    1. Is not able to show the contents of a share
    2. After clicking back and forth it suddenly can show the contents of that share
    3. But it doesnt want to open subfolders within that share, it treats them as scripts or something other than folders!
    4. After little clicking back and forth, suddenly it works anyway.
    5. When trying to copy folders/files from the resource, it fails. No error message, no nothing, it just doesnt copy.

But when entering the same shares on the server via a microsoft machine, everything is ok. The same goes for entering the samba server via a windows machine. Everything works.

The problem only happens when browsing from the Debian computer.

    Any solutions?

what browser are you using, nautilus? I had problems (different problems) using nautilus until I installed smbfs and smbclient. I could then browse windows file shares without problems.

Yeh. I guess I was using Nautilus.
It doesnt say anywhere, but I know it is the default browser in many Linux X-Window systems. I usually just pushed "places -> Connect to server" in the X-window system, and filled in ip-adresses and so on, and what type of service (smb in this case). The connection was no problem, the browsing was.

I looked up the packages you were writing about. Found them in the synaptic packageadministrator, and they were already installed. Any tricks to start using them? Are those tools text based?
