Audio problem with MoBo Gigabyte chipset nVidia

    Hello to everybody

I have adquire recently a new motherboard Gigabyte model GA-M61SME-S2 Rev. 2002 (S-Series) socket AM2 and AMD Athlon 64 2.4Ghz.

the chipset is a nVidia GeForce 6100/NForce 405

I have installed Debian 4.0 R3 Etch using NetInstall disk, XFCE4 desktop, and changed the kernel (original 2.6.18.X) for 2.6.22.X downloaded form backports...

all is working but i cant play any sound, alsamixergui shows the chipset and name of the onboard card (Realtek ALC883), i installed Totem (commonly installd alsa and other dependences) and i checked and installed alsa, alsamixer and some mpeg-X libs in order to play sounds...

but Totem ony shows "the file is only sound, no video to play" or some like that, i slide up all controls in alsamixergui and console alsamixer but i can't hear anything.

I try the original kernel (2.6.18.X) and Totem don't open, alsamixergui shows an error about a snd_...() function, i don't remember the name.

    i have used these repositories:

deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ etch main non-free contrib
    # oficial firts and the principal mirror for backports:
deb Index of /debian etch-backports main contrib non-free
deb Index of /backports.org etch-backports main contrib non-free
deb Index of /backports.org etch-backports main contrib non-free
    # games for linux and some emulators, timidity and some apache modules:
    # baja el del blog!
    # the great ow powerfully debian marillat multimedia free/non-free repository
deb Index of /debian-multimedia etch main
deb Index of /debian-multimedia etch main
    # special but maybe somes not wel package multimedia audio professional repository
    # (PICCORO, dejalo comentado pero no lo borres)
    #deb RareWares ./

Somebody have any idea about some test to do or something to make soundcard works???

    Thanks to everybody

    See you

I have that chipset on my motherboard.

I had some problems with microphone using alsa, so I decided to install drivers manually.

Try downloading them from Main Page - AlsaProject I know its kind of annoying, but the 1.016 drivers should be newer than whatever you have with that 2.6.22 kernel.

    OK, i will try

    i don't lost anyting trying

is the same compiling over 64 bits than 32 bits???

but i need first to remove any alsa, alsa-lib package?, i suppose.

the libs (if are produced) need to be located on /usr/lib or /usr/lib64 ???

    Thanks

    See you

well did you install the amd64 version of debian, or are you using the x86?

I didn't uninstall the alsa stuff because there are some plugins that you will want to keep installed that will have dependency issues anyway.

all you need to install really is the driver, libraries, firmware maybe

Only 64, i downloaded Deb 4.O AMD64 NetInstall epecifically for using with my AMD Athlon 64 processor.

The only thing on 32 bits that i try to install is flashplayer, but dont works (also i have WinXP 32bits)

then, no problem if i leave alsa and libs packages and compile and add the new ones???

    Thanks

    See you
