NFS: Public workstation home folder sharing problems

Im using NFS to share out the home directories of the workstations to the newly created NFS server (latest debian). There wasn't any problems mounting the share, in the beginning...

However as i added another workstation (all Ubuntu 8.04) things started to become inconsistent with mounting of the home folder. My ultimate goal is to have a consistent home folder across all workstations that the teachers use but cannot change (wallpaper, icons etc). When one workstation logs in the other workstation falls back tot he local home folder. Im also getting logon errors relating to a /dmrc file and permissions not being correct despite me setting everything to 777 on the server (also checked the exports file too)

Where should i be looking to solve the issue? The server?, workstations? or is this something thats considered bad or not recommended design? (All wkst home folders mounted to a single unchanging home folder on NFS server)

Any help would be greeeeeatly appreciated . Any information needed i can provide.

    hi

I think nfs isn't a good choice for this.
I know what you want to do , it's called mandatory profile.
I think you need set up a LDAP server which easily can be configured to provide mandatory account.
But make some search on the internet.
