    Firefox gives a GTK Error

    Hello,

I got my dedicated server today, I installed almost everything that firefox requires. Now when I execute firefox I get an error "
    (firefox-binxxx): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
    "
I'm trying to run it under root from ssh.

I tried creating another username using the command "adduser" and executing firefox using this newly created username, but still no luck.

I've almost spent the last 3 hours goolgling this error and finding solutions but none have worked yet or I've overlooked something. I'm new to linux, but I've tried almost all the poplar solutions in google from adding the "display" variable to re-installing firefox. I even installed the X library, but still there's no luck. Maybe I've missed something or I don't know what I should change or do and this is really frustating as I need it to get to work somehow.

I'd be thankful to anyone with any input with regards to this,
    Thanks in advance,
    3l3ctr1c

firefox is not a text based program and it won't run under ssh. firefox is a graphical program and requires a gtk environment. try when logged into your desktop environment
