Maximum number of aliased IPs in Debian?

To be honest I am not sure if this is Debian specific but its the distro I use. I am wondering if there is a maximum number of aliased IPs to an interface, if it is software or hardware bound, and if there is a performance hit as the number increases. Thanks.

    Regards,

    Ryan

I don't think its deb specific. But from what I am reading you will probably run out of available address' before you reach the alias limit.

But the more you add will have a potential performance impact, especially if you are doing routing.
