Help with install
I am new to the Linux world and I just downloaded the Debian 4.0r3- i386.iso file. I'm pretty sure I extracted the file to the CD because I now show the contents of the disc contains the .iso file I just downloaded. I'm trying to install this Debian download on an older laptop that I have, which I wiped clean. The older laptop is a Dell Latitude CP and I configured the BIOS to boot from the CD-Rom, but all I get is a blinking cursor. Is there any other way I can breathe life in this old Dell? Any help would be appreciated.

this sounds like the problem. It sounds like you burned the iso file to the disc and burned it as a normal file, instead of using the iso as the image.
Not sure what OS you burned the CD on but here are some good links
burn iso file - Google Search

Re:
Thanks for the tip head. That was the case. I just downloaded and ISO recorder and created the actual mirror image. I thought Windows XP had a built-in recorder on the CD-Rom RW disc drive.

- 06-04-2008 #5You can use Nero to burn .iso image. Select Burn Image to Disk option in Nero's Menu.I thought Windows XP had a built-in recorder on the CD-Rom RW disc drive. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
