    Blank X after nvidia upgrade

I'm using Debian unstable and when I upgraded the nvidia drivers to 173.14.09 the debian way (nvidia-kernel-source w/module-assistant and nvidia-glx) the X server (I use gdm) comes up blank, only showing the first row of pixels.
I am able to get a functional X server by using the nv driver but I really want the nvidia drivers to work.
    Please Help.

Look in /var/log for your Xorg.0.log. There should be some errors in there that are helpful in troubleshooting the problem

I started the X server again with the nvidia driver and see no errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log. I've attached it if anyone wants to give it a look.

    X ?

I think it's something with you xorg.conf file. I would do a Google of your video card "chipset + xorg.conf"to see if anyone has an example posted. Hope this helps.

I've been using Debian/Nvidia/Compiz for a long time. I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with my xorg.conf.
I repeat, X gives no errors other than the warnings about fonts as you can see in the log file I attached. All I get is a blank screen with the top row of pixels showing.

i'd say revert back to what you had before, graphic driver is one of those things that if it ain't broke don't fix it deal, unless your old driver had bugs or the new driver has new features you need/want i don't see a reason to upgrade to it, usually not much is done except add support for newer cards

jonantice, I had problems with my Nvidia card after updating the drivers on one box. What worked was to run Envy. Have you tried it yet? I believe you can download it with an:
    Code:
    apt-get install envyng-core
And run it from the command line:
    Code:
    envyng -t
There's also a gtk and qt front end for it, but it's mindlessly easy to run from the command line. It helped me...
