How can I know the cpu in use?

In order to compare execution speeds of two different platforms I have to know the exact cpu model and clock frequency of one of them which runs under Debian. Could not find any system tool which tells that under Debian. Is there any Linux command to know that? Thanks in advance. Satyavan.
