audio with skype v. 1.4.0.118 on lenny w/oss?

Anyone have success with audio in Skype on Debian lenny with oss? I've checked multiple solutions in Google, but still no joy.

I'm running OSS and all mixer settings are correct. For example, playback works in xmms, and mic-record works in audacity. However, I can't get playback or record in Skype. The attempt to place a test call to echo123 in Skype fails with error "call failed. problem with audio playback".

Skype sound devices dialogue, the "sound in", "sound out", and "ringing" drop-down lists offer choice between "default" and the microphone in my USB webcam. However, /dev/dsp does not appear as an option in any of the drop-down lists.

I believe this version of skype supports oss. Perhaps I need to find a way to get "/dev/dsp" to show up as a device in the Skype sound-devices drop-down lists?

audio with skype v. 2.0.0.72 on lenny w/oss?

    Anybody?

The trick, I guess, is to get /dev/dsp to show up in the drop-down boxes at Skype>Options>Sound Devices.

By the way, the USB device mentioned at cat /proc/asound/cards is the mic in my USB webcam. I have a PCI soundcard functional in OSS (see the output of lspci -v) and it is indeed detected as /dev/dsp by Audacity.

And in the meantime, I've upgraded to Skype 2.0.072 and the video is cool.

    Anybody? Thanks!

best regards from Northern California USA

    Success!

Now have /dev/dsp and incoming and outgoing sound in Skype

    The solution:

    Code:
    ossdetect -d
    Code:
    ossdevlinks -v -r
then download and install Skype 2.0.0.72-oss (emphasis on *oss"!) from
according to the instructions in its ReadMe file.

    Now I'm a happy voice-chatter!

best regards to all from North-Central California,
