    Applet .tar Installation

Hello all of you awesome Debian linux people!

I have two .tar applets I'd like to install. Both of them are cool looking goodies that show the temperature and activity of your cpu.

I've downloaded both files, and they are sitting on my desktop.

    How do I install them?

I know this is probably very basic, but once I know how to do this, I'll be able to install just about everything.

Thank you for your time and patience. Have a great day!

    Hello,

tell us the name of the applets.
Maybe others will find them awesome too.
Also, we could help you in a more specific way.

    Here are the names:

    cpufire_applet-1.4.tar

    computertemp-0.9.6.1.tar

I was impressed by the Enlightenment desktop, which has applets that monitor the computers stats just floating on the desktop. I was hoping to do the same for my Debian linux (which is running Gnome).

I kitbashed a cpu fan out of some spare parts, and I am keen to know the cpu's temp in case it falls off.

I don't have internet acces, otherwise I'd just use apt-get install.

    Thank you!

Hmm, this will be very difficult because the cpufire package (didn't check the other) you got has to be compiled. It has quite a lot of dependencies on developer libraries. Those you will have to install first.

Usually distributors take these source packages and built it for their distribution and offer it in their repositories for easy install. The problem is Debian Etch does not have it. You would need Debian testing (Lenny) for that.
