Installing pymedia - gcc error

I've been trying to install pymedia-1.3.7.3 using the intructions here:

And those here:

(I'm using Etch)

But when I run python setup.py build, I receive the following:

unable to execute g++: No such file or directory error: command ‘g++’ failed with exit status 1

And I don't seem to be able to find a solution to this anywhere. Any ideas?
