    Unhappy Cannot boot with CD-ROM

I am new to Linux. I installed Debian Linux with an installer and found that my PC cannot boot with the CD-ROM afterward. I remember choosing to modifiy the "Master Boot Record" during the installation and wonder if it is the cause. Grateful if anyone can tell me what I can do to boot with the CD-ROM. Thanks.

    Hi and Welcome !

MBR has nothing to with CD-ROM boot up problem. Check BIOS. CD Drive must be First Boot Device.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

For some strange reason, this is not the case on a Dell E 521. ~ For both of my CD ROM's.

On most computers though, this is a big deal.

Best of luck to you !

Thanks for your reply. But the CD-ROM is already the First Boot Device in BIOS. I saw an option "F8 - Boot Menu" in the very beginning of the boot up process and so I pressed F8 and chose the second device "CD-ROM", but it still could not boot and got to the Network media check when I had unplugged the harddisk.

I agree with aruntomar2001. If you have set CD Drive as First Device in BIOS then try other bootable CD and check if it works.
Try same CD on other machine too.

    Hi

Well. Kinda NO in a way. The Cd Rom should work at boot period. As fa as I'm, aware there is not anything to stand in the way of it working in terms of the stuff you get once the distro has fired, say such as device name.

That said, are you 100% certain the device is functioning correctly ?

This will be a time saver if you can test it on another box.

Thanks everyone, I'll test the CD-ROM on another machine first.
