Problem with wireless setup

I just installed lenny the other day. I installed an atheros wireless card following the instructions here. The card can connect to my wireless network now, but it won't work. It initially shows a strong signal but when I disconnect the ethernet and switch to wlan01 in the network settings, nothing loads and the signal strength plummets to nothing and disconnects me. After connecting with Kwifimanager, iwconfig shows my network as being connected at wlan01. I had the card working in kubuntu so I think it should work here too.

Any ideas?

A bit more googling and luck fixed it. I found this and it has you ifconfig [connection] down. I tried this with my ethernet connection, leaving my wireless alone, and it worked after. I guess it was trying to still connect via the wired connection.
