    Linux Kernel Compilation - issue

    Hi All,

I compiled the latest stable version of Linux, 2.6.26.2 in my Acer Aspire 5583 NWXMi laptop loaded with Debian Etch r0. I went through all the section and I didn't understand some of the modules and section the menuconfig was talking about. So I just left it as it is and I changed the modules/section which I knew wat it does. Now, some problems after I reboot the new kernel.

    1. /dev/sdaX has now become /dev/hdaX. Not sure what has happend to the SATA support.
    2. The system has become quite slow and its taking time for the programs to get loaded especially the X applications.

With this post, I have attached the config file which I saved after kernel configuration. Please go through and suggest some tips. Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Kurian Mathew Thayil.

revert back to old kernel first off

whenever you compile a new kernel you should use your old kernel config as a base, it should be something like /boot/config

    Hi coopstah,

Thank you for the reply. I will do that but I want some features of this new kernel enabled (especially the wifi support for Intel 3945ABG). Else I don't see any point in compiling to this stable release. Please advice.

    Regards,

    Kurian Mathew Thayil.
