[SOLVED] Odd difference between Ubuntu and Debian
I'd been a Ubuntu user for about a year and recently started playing with Debian. I wanted a more..hands-on experience. I noticed that in Debian, flash is a little jumpy and glitchy and, on the rare occasion, doesn't load. In Ubuntu, this doesn't happen. It's not due to 64bit OS or anything. Any thoughts on what could cause this? I tried removing iceweasel and installing firefox from the mozilla tarball and switching to flash10 beta but it did nothing. Not exactly a deal breaker but it's a little annoying. Thanks in advance.

Are you using the correct graphics driver for your system? What graphics card/chip do you have?

Do regular movie files jump and skip as well, or is it just Flash files? If other movies run slowly or skip, you might consider changing your sound system from PulseAudio (the Ubuntu default) to ALSA. I've had PulseAudio degrade my video performance before.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I am using the nv driver (old laptop, it's got a whopping 64MB GeForce440 or something). It plays movie files fine. I've even done some video editting on it.
My explanation may have been a little confusing. On ubuntu, it's not glitchy and on Debian it is glitchy. On Debian I am using ALSA and don't even have PulseAudio installed. Would switching to PulseAudio make a difference?

Yeah, thanks for your help. Like I said, I'm still relatively new to linux, so I'm not sure where to go in this. I was thinking of maybe removing all traces of firefox, adding an ubuntu repo, installing JUST firefox, and then removing the repo. I've read about people doing that. As it is, I removed iceweasel and installed firefox deb from mozilla's website. Any thoughts on that?

I found this page ([#FP-553] "Connection problem" with some Flash video sites - Adobe Bug System) where it is apparently a bug in the newer versions that affects some people. Downgrading to an earlier version of flash9.0 solved it for me.
