    By standard do you mean ncurses or something of that nature? If you were a bit more descriptive might be able to help more.

    ntop website

    NTOP is simply an application that reads packets (see libpcap if you want to do this) off the wire. IETF standards cover the IP Protocol but not NTOP itself. Perhaps if I ask the question a differently, what's your main objective? Do you want to add to ntop? Do you want to write your own version of ntop (a clone)? Do you want to create something similar? Sorry - but I'm a bit confused.

    my intension is to present a paper on ntop...so u say ntop dont follow any standard ?

    So I downloaded the source to see if maybe we are just talking past each other. NTOP leverages libpcap to gather the packets - this is very common. LIBPCAP is very popular with network applications, wireshark uses it, snort, etc. Is that what you are looking for?
