Create a new vga driver
Hi!
I have a very good little notebook called Classmate PC. I have installed on it Debian Etch with GNOME Xclient and it behaves to my entire satisfaction. Unfortunately it doesn't have a VGA output so I can't show any slides in a class room.
So I bought an USB to VGA converter. It is a hardware that should be pluged to the USB of the notebook and I get a VGA output on its other side. Technically, it behaves like a second VGA card
My plan is to set up Xinerama to clone the Desktop, and if I am able to do that, I have solved my problem.
Unfortunately, my USB to VGA converter only comes with drivers for Windows and the manual says it doesn't have any drivers developed for other OS yet. I want to create a new driver for it on Linux.
I would like something like a tutorial in order to get started. Thanks for any help,
Joe

The book and the tools...
Here's my 2 cents..
Read:
1. Linux Device Drivers
2. You need a USB Prober (software). On OS X it's on the Developer CD entitled "USB Prober", Windows find it here and on Linux head to the Linux USB Project
3. Next, walk through the USB driver on Windows, see if you can trace it, recreate it on Linux. If you can't just debug it, you could use IDA Pro to reverse engineer the driver and make your own!
Hope this helps...
