Debian stable resolution issue - 640x480 unchangeable
I really hope i didn't miss something obvious here, but..
My laptop is on a fresh install of Debian (latest stable). Everything should be up-to-date (aptitude update + upgrade). When logging in, the resolution made my mind hurt, so i went to the display manager. Only 640x480 was listed.
Nothing i couldn't fix, i thought.
First thing was obviously trying xrandr.
It only lists 640x480 as usable.
Okay.
Onto /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Weirdly, resolutions up to 1024x768 were available.
Okay. So i simply remove the 640x480 option. Rebooted.
Same problem. 640x480 still not listed, still used.
After a bit of googling, I determined that a lot of people with similar problems were using Xfree86 - I am now relatively sure that isn't my case. My xorg.conf is full, and there is no /etc/X11/XFree86Config* file anywhere. Also, dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 does not excist, xserver-xorg does. I did the relevant dpkg-reconfigure, trying to enable every possible resolution. Still no results.
Frankly, i feel stuck here. I can't see any solution by looking trhough my google results, nor did anything strike me when i read the manpage for /etc/X11/xorg.conf
I trust someone here knows what i did wrong.
Comradely, DingoBoy.
EDIT: Attached xorg.conf

I believe i have - I have the relevantly named driver units installed from synaptic.
oh, and apparently Xrandr is enable - It says Xrandr enable, ignore the following Xandre disable message
Then a Xrandr disabled message.
?
I'm still hopelessly stuck here, but thanks a lot for your help.

I just checked, and on my machine my resolution is set (wrongly) in the simple Display manager GUI, but is set (correctly) by my Nvidia settings manager. This tells me that my graphics card settings are overriding the main settings.
Can you find a config file/gui for your video card?Registered Linux user #388328 || Registered LFS user #15880

Hmm. I found a config file for my sound card when i search for just plain "intel".
Searching for Brookdale (Some kind of version i think, i read it out of my lspci) gave nothing.
Nor did the number 8482 (version number in front of Brookdale.)
I was unable to locate anything looking like a conf file for my video card. There is no GUI anything for the card. Note, i never installed the driver myself, but all intel-related driver files were installed in Synaptic.
This is the video card section of my lspci:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01)
all packages that relate to graphics under "intel driver" are installed.
