    Debian Etch NetInstall

I installed Debian etch on a partition of my desktop, and everything was going fine. And then i booted up and it asks to login and I do under root. When I login through root, it just stays in the shell. Doesn't boot into the graphical environment. How do I fix this?

There's a config file you can edit to allow this, but it's a really really bad idea.

Logging in graphically as root exposes your system to a lot of risk for no good reason. That it isn't allowed by default is one of the strengths of linux, and is one of the reasons why linux is much more stable and secure than windows.

Is there any reason you can't log in as a regular user, and then use "sudo", "su -", "kdesu", or "gksudo" to obtain root privileges?
