Do you connect through a proxy server?
If you do, copy the settings from your browser (Iceweazel, right?) to System->Preferences->Network Proxy.

Which repos are failing? Are you using sid, lenny, or etch?

    Ultamatix?

I've seen this/similar happen after installing. Ultamatix. Easy fix if that is the case:
Open terminal and type : sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Make sure you have backed up your system, do at your own risk disclaimer !Save the file as source.backup just in case!

You'll see the section that Ultamatix inputed.
Comment out anything in the Ultamatix section.

    ## Ultamatix/Automatix Start ##
    #Anything in
    #here
    #needs a comment before it...
#I just deleted the Ultamatix section
    #but that's just me
    ## Ultamatix/Automatix End ##

Now from the Terminal: apt-get update
