    Some text appears too large

    Hi,

    Some text appears to big on my Debian laptop. This some text on some websites, like the text in the editor for posting a new message at these forums, and other text at linuxforums.org and linuxquestions.org. But not for instance at mozzila.org. The letters that are too big are not affected by the the Iceweasel settings for font size. In my signature for posting here I had one line of text formated to be smaller, these are affected by the settings, but for an other line of my signature I had not specified the size and it was too big. I don't have this problem with the Gnome web browser.

    Also, some other programs have fonts that are to big, but most don't. The ones that have big fonts include K3e (a KDE app) and the Gnome terminal if I uncheck the "Use system fixed width font" in its settings.

    See attached screenshot.

    Any suggestions?

    I found a solution. I first ran

    Code:
    gnome-control-center
    went to Appearance->Fonts->Details and set the dots per inch from 133 to 96. That fixed it for Gnome and most other programs, also ones that I did not considerto be Gnome apps.

    Then I ran

    Code:
    kcontrol
    went to Appearance & Themes->Fonts and set "Force DPI" from disabled to 96 DPI. That fixed it for KDE apps.

    Unfortunatly, for KDE I could choose only between Disabled, 96 DPI and 120 DPI, whereas with Gnome I could pick any number.

    These two settings seem to affect all fonts on my system. But my guess is that there is some underlying setting that affects both KDE and Gnome at once.

    You can set your DPI in Xorg. Here's a wiki page for doing just that:

    ArchWiki :: Xorg - ArchWiki

    That wiki page was written for Arch users, but it should also work with other distros.

    Hmm. None of the two alternatives mentioned there had any effect.
