[SOLVED] Netinst hangs at Kernel install
Hi,
I'm using the 4r05 -386 netinst, my machine is Williamette P4 based.
All OK up to installing the kernel, the system hangs at 83% ' Retreiving and installing the Kernel - installing Linux image 2. 6-686..'
I have tried several times and get the same result, leaving it each time for over an hour, the only way out is to restart the CD installation.
I've had a search for known problems but couldn't find anything -

Welcome to the forums!
Check for any kernel boot options that are available to you through the F-keys right before the CD begins to boot, and then experiment with them to see if you can get past this hurdle.
I've not run Debian for several years so can't say what kernel options are currently available on the install CD.oz

Hi Oz,
I've now sorted the problem and the installation completed successfuly, but the cure was not software related...It appeared the CPU had frozen, i.e no response to caps lock or num lock.
I subsequently discovered that the CPU fan wasn't working, and the heatsink was clagged up with years of dust, although the heatsink didn't feel particularly hot to the touch.
Once that was sorted it all went fine, why it chose to halt at the same point is a bit of a mystery though.
Anyway - now to sort out the wireless card !
